Marselan, a new variety established in 1961 by a French researcher who crossed Cabernet Sauvignon with Grenache and landed on something neither parent could quite manage alone. It has the Cabernet's structure and depth, Grenache's warmth and aromatics, and a personality that is distinctly its own. This 2024 example pours a deep saturated ruby, hinting at the concentration to come.
As a three-clonal field blend, our Syrah delivers a complex display of sweet spices, dusty florals, and black fruits. The tannins are soft and supple with just an air of violet and herbal undertones.
Barrel aged 16 months in 33% new French Oak
Blend: 90% Syrah, 4% Alicante Bouschet, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Zinfandel
As the heritage grape of Paso Robles, Zinfandel has played a major role in the success of the region. In 2006, we planted three acres of Zinfandel surrounding the Villa to pay tribute to our beginnings as a Paso Robles producer. This wine is our origin story.
Barrel aged 19 months in 14% new French Oak
A VSJ favorite! 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Tempranillo and 4% Petit Verdot. On the palate it delivers on the promise of that nose, full bodied and generous, with black currant and ripe cherry moving across a bright, clean acidity. The finish is round and full, with a streak of minerality that lends the wine a quiet elegance and lingers well past the last sip.
Aged 24 months in 50% new French Oak. Notes of cedar, violet, vanilla and cola. The palate is where it opens up, an expolosion of red fruit that feels generous and unrestrained. The finish is full and tannic with length and elegance. This Cabernet is built for the cellar but rewarding enough to open tonight.
The 2020 Jules is a port-style Petite Sirah that promises to bring comfort and opulent blackberry and plum flavors to the end of your meal or as a night cap. Petite Sirah clusters were harvested late in the season, fermented then arrested with brandy locking in sweet and juicy purple flavors. Following 4 years of barrel aging, nutty and carmel tones integreated themselves nicely in our most rich wine offering to date.
