2015 VSJ Cabernet Franc Reserve
The 2015 Cabernet Franc Reserve is aromatically enticing, offering initial waves of blueberry jam, lavender, and anise that segue into deeper, nuttier notes of browned butter and spicy black pepper. With an opulent mouthfeel, this wine unfolds in layers of fruit, spice and earthiness. The flavors are robust and intense, with blackberry, molasses, and strawberry undergirded by deeper notes of black currant, maple syrup, and bittersweet chocolate.
Vintage notes: While every grape vintage offers many opportunities for learning, 2015 brought a host of surprises. In the spring, an early hot spell followed by extended cold temperatures made for an extended bloom period, which left the flowers vulnerable and reduced pollination, causing very low yields in the vineyard. These reduced crop loads on the vines, in turn, coupled with late summer heat to hasten harvest for early-ripening varieties. The resulting wines from 2015 all exhibit extraordinary concentration, showcasing the region’s terroir with enhanced minerality and show-stopping vibrancy.
